Nitrox 36% Diver

The IAHD Nitrox 36% training program is an introduction program towards the use of Enriched Air Nitrox with an oxygen percentage of 36%. It is highly recommended for disabled divers to use nitrox 36% during their open water dives. Due to the higher oxygen percentage, the intake of nitrogen will be reduced, thus creating an improved safety margin towards decompression sickness.

Because of the wide variety of disabilities that one may encounter when training disabled divers and as all training is performance based, achievement of all, or part of the required objectives will determine the added safety measures that will be required for the individual.

Prerequisite qualifying courses

  • None

Minimum age

  • 15 years

What the course covers

You will learn about the advantages of breathing a mixture of air enriched with a greater percentage of oxygen than is normally contained in a scuba cylinder. Use of an oxygen analyser is also covered.

You'll earn this rating by completing five pool dives and knowledge development sessions and by making four open water (ocean or lake) dives.

The course is split into two parts. The first 3 days of pool and theory take place at Andark, (or Home Study - see Timetable details below), and the final two days for the 4 qualifying dives are at a suitable (and safe) open water training site.
