Three atolls - North Malé, South Malé and Ari, form the main areas of tourism of the Maldives.
The diving is superb, with sharks, turtles and barracuda competing for the diver's attention with the wreck of the 35,000-tonne freight ship, Maldives Victory, which sank in 1981 west of Hulule island.
